A proper Peugeot

This car rested itself by the side of the road today. It´s a Kia Ceed. It´s a smart, neat and tidy bit of work. Sure, the waistline rises too steeply and small children will hate sitting in the back of it. But, is this not evidence that Peugeot could have done something more in keeping with their tradition of nicely understated designs than they have been lately? I´ve posted a 1997 306 for comparison.

10 January 2013 11:99

Land Rover has announced that it will be producing another  limited edition model of its highly successful Evoque. This edition comes in Ultra Red, which features more red pigmentation in the outer layer of the coating that protects the bodywork. "It´s got more red in it," says LR marketing chief Nick Boove-Rogerson. "We knew customers wanted something redder, so here it is."

The accurately titled ‘Ultra Red Limited Edition Evoque’ is set to be unveiled at the January 2013 Luxembourg motor show. The price will be £9,000 over the standard top of ...

A car for CAR readers?

There is a ready market for vehicles costing between 5,000 to 25,000 GBP and which lack much by way of modern features such as crash protection, airbags, automatic chokes, electric seats, heated windows, electric windows, air conditioning and satellite navigation not to mention USB and smart phone connectivity and anti-lock braking too. They´re called classic cars. Perhaps there is money to be made in making a car for those hold-outs who prefer classic motoring not because of the cost and unreliability but because of the simplicity of the machines. What would a modern but classically simple car have to have and ...

Mercedes-Benz W126: Genesis

 Gentlemen,

this isn't the tale of Phil Collins and how his choice of motor car pushed Peter Gabriel away from his band and towards African drums (which would undoubtedly be worth telling).

This is actually a small collection of fascinating design sketches which show Mercedes (or Daimler) designers' quest for the form of the new S-Class for the 80s.

Considering development of the W126 started in 1971 it isn't terribly surprising to detect more than a whiff of 70s Mercedes design cues, which also goes to highlight just how advanced the New S eventually turned out to be.

Enjoy!

Transitions: late 70s to early 80s interiors

This thread looks at a period of transition as injection moulding, safety legislation and changing taste in colours acted to markedly alter how car interiors looked. The late 70s was the period when the dashboard became seen as an integrated whole rather than a set of items screwed to a bulkhead. Of course, Citroen´s SM got there in 1971 but did it without injection moulding on the scale possible in 1981.

This thread welcome photos of unusual colourways and comparison photos showing the old-school and new school interiors. Car which straddle the period such as the R25, ...
