An alternative to a V70

My brother´s wife needs a newer estate car. They currently run a battered ´95 Passat wagon which is spacious and light and a pleasure to drive. It´s just very wrecked. They have two 11 year olds and a big dog. Currently a Volvo V70 is their preferred choice. I think it´s a 5 year old example. They live in a sometimes snowy rural area. Has anyone any further options they could or should consider. The annual mileage won´t be more than 10,000 km. The V70 strikes me as a dull, overpriced car with less room inside than they need. I ...

CAR Magazine binders for sale

FYI, I have 12 "official" CAR Magazine binders currently for sale on eBay, dark blue with gold CAR (in the usual lower-case) on the spine.

Search for "car magazine binder" and they're in two sizes, 310 x 227 x 118mm and 320 x 250 x 120mm.
£5ea + P&P; 50% proceeds to Sustrans.

Many magazines are a FREE optional extra (call and collect only).
I don't expect/can't be bothered to try to sell them as well.

I owe a lot to CAR Magazine, for example my appreciation of a well composed photograph and of well written English.

Citroen staying in WRC for next year too

Talk's been that Citroen would quit the WRC next year but now claims in the UK press say that they'll keep at it for next year as well.

Speculation still surrounds the decisions from Ford and Citroen, but team principal of the Versailles manufacturer Olivier Quesnel has confirmed the deal is in place for next season.

Quesnel said: “For myself we [Citroen] are okay to stay in rallying. I don’t have any problem for myself. For myself I got the budget for the new car. Citroen wants to stay in rallying, so I have no problem with that.”

Allied ...

CAR survey

Bit disappointed with the standard 'tell-us-what-you-think-but-not-really' marketing rubbish questions.

If you'd wanted a bit of non-antiseptic opinion, you might have given us an 'anything you want to add box'. Wherein I could have said

A:-that 4x4 offroad and softroad vehicles bore me to death, are for the most part plug ugly , take up far too much room on the road, and have no business in a magazine called 'CAR'.

B:-that your standard of photography is terrific, and can we have a piece about your photographers and how they go about taking the pictures please.

C:-that you do motorsport articles ...

getting sketchy

A couple of sketches I scribbled together in my free time. They look a little grainy, probably because they actually are about only half an A4-sized sheet (the back of two school circulars) and were put together in about 40 minutes, flat. It's my idea of a modern Ferrari Dino.

 What d'you think?

My favourite hybrid car -- 24000 USD

Last year , I see a hybrid car - BYD F3dm , which consumes 16kwh of electricity per 100km(62 mile). Its Dual Mode(DM) Electric Vehicle is based on BYD’s latest generation gasoline engine.then I am looking forward to buy one to start my environmental way .

I  just come here and share the car with you , my friends . Do you ...

You are what you... drive?

 Hi all,

Due to being an absolute car fanatic, I'm basing my undergraduate marketing dissertation on the automotive industry. I'm attempting to uncover the psychological factors underpinning car purchases, and would really appreciate 3-4 minutes of anybody's time to fill out my questionnaire:

https://plymouthbusiness.eu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_b1kBQ8firCelZnS

Don't see this as spamming or advertising - I'm posting on here with a view to sharing any key findings on this forum and with any poster should they request. But with that said, I would appreciate you contributing to (and thus enriching) my research.

Many thanks in advance,

Alex

BMW 5 GT - A Misunderstanding

  Gentlemen,

recently I stumbled upon a documentary programme on TV, depicting the development process of BMW's misshapen concoction, the Five Series GT.

At first, the entire feature seemed to be the usual waste of time, for the first minutes consisted of obviously staged discussions, intercut with shots of sleek glass-and-steel-architecture of the R&D facilities, which manufacturers seem to see as a most subtle symbol of their own engineering prowess. I was about to call it a night when things became considerably more interesting - for the first time, I/the viewer could witness the styling department's internal competition process, including ...

Throwaway Lines

The days of a car's design being defined by two lines appear to be over. Dropping, diving, balancing, the new S-class has more lines to remember than Hamlet. Oh well, if you can't beat them, you might as well join them - and anyway why should companies be the ones to come up with all the vocabulary of the design language? Suggestions please for all the possible lines which a car could be festooned with! But please, no sketches - like Mercedes you must describe your lines with words. Afterall, we're talking design language here - not design sketches.
