CAR Magazine on Zinio or iPad

When are you going to begin providing your magazine to the masses using newer technology such as Zinio or as an iTunes publication?

Your online strategy needs revisiting. Electronic media allows you to reach an international audience instantly without the cost of publishing in glossy paper format.

I hope this is in the works as after several years of purchasing the magazine off the rack over here in AsiaI have had to stop as the cost was becoming prohibitive, the magazine arrived 2 weeks deeper into the month and the pile of magazine was taking up too much space in my Apartment.

Ha ha, unfortunately over at Car Towers in Peterborough, an I pad ( eye pad ) is a large piece of cotton wool on elastic that you wear after getting some of the crud off Tim Pollards 5 series estate in your eye. Zinio is what they think Sj should clean the sink with after making all that tea and coffee. You probably won't get a reply soon as they are invariably busy melting lead for the new type face ready for the compositor. The new boy Hamilton would normally be along but he does the chimney of a Friday and sometimes gets stuck. Best send them a Telegram ;)

Re: CAR Magazine on Zinio or iPad

If people want CAR available in digital formats they´re welcome to it provided this doesn´t take resources away from the print edition. The day CAR goes to digital-only is the day I stop reading. I don´t want to pay for pixels and bits. I want gloss, heft and durability.

Some consideration has to be given to costs and expenses in relation to services rendered as in any other business. Car magazines are also in a competitive environment and must do lots to keep their readership. I think that before offering fancy expensive options - they should suppliment their magazine with other thinsg which petrolheads and serious enthusiasts want - (rather than deserting one magazine for another). I would like to see at least 2 pages per month dedicated to rallying - WRC/IRC. I am not being selfish - but I seriously believe that many readers of CAR wouild welcome this. 2 pages for this would allow 2 pages for adverts RIGHT??

time to move over

Funnily enough Reg one of the CAR team had an eye infection on Friday... do you have sources in P'boro to provide you with this uncannily accurate info?

Although Paoj's question is best left to the editors to respond to officially, I can confirm a few things:

1) SJ doesn't have to fetch the tea and coffee - it's a collective responsibility

2) The telegram system is very temperamental so we often have to use carrier pigeons to receive Herr Kacher's reports from Europe.

3) The chimneysweeps. Through our links in Germany, we will soon be receiving one of Mr Gottlieb Daimler's internal combustion engines to power the office, doing away with the coal-fired boiler. It's all very exciting...

Speaking purely on a personal level, I enjoy reading and collecting the print edition of CAR. A digital edition would be good, but at this point I'd be happy with full functionality of the comments area/forum for iOS devices.

Paoj, are you reading any other motoring publications on Zinio or through iPad apps? If so, which ones, and can you tell us what features you like best on the ones you are reading?

The worlds best car magazine? Maybe in the 20th century. Another lost customer to Top Gear. I read every edition from the comfort of my home in America on my iPad using Zinio subscription for $60. Seriously Car.... Your digital strategy is a shambles
