My money is on Stephen Roche. Last TdF winner (1987) before drugs and team orders started rulling the race for good.
Edit: damn. Just checked and it could indeed also be Sean Kelly (another great rider from the 80's) as they both work or did work for Eurosport.

Hell is other people.

They pretty much all failed drug tests in those days, but usage was much less systematic and the rules less drastic.

Sean Kelly is right. As I was not a follower of the sport his name at the time didnt ring a bell. He was very unassuming and a fun guy with dry Irish humour.
As far as the drugs go in this sport I am afraid it ranks higher than even athletics. To ask the human body to perform to such heights over long periods is just a bridge too far in my opinion and it will always be riddled. Lance was a great guy but used his cancer as a screen for performance enhancing drugs in my humble opinion. Maybe not at the begining but almost surely later. Because he was such a huge draw for sponsors tv and the sport itself - I think officaldom turned a blind eye to whatever he did. Sad really. By the way when I was 14 I managed to beg my miserable old man into buying me a real 14 speed racing bike - of course he attached a penalty to this. "You will ride to school and back daily - no money for bus fares and bikes!" Fine - except it was 16 miles up hill and down dale (we lived near Harrogate in the country and I was a private school in Ripon). But I always rode it rain hail or shine and loved it.
time to move over
Gets more and more like football managers !
"Virgin has parted company with technical director Nick Wirth following its disappointing start to the season."
Who actually designed that barge anyway? Which rubbish engine do they have - should part company with Santa Clause (white hair and beard of RB)
So its on-off-on-off ON again !! The Bahrain Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar on 30 October. Bernie is bending over so far it must hurt his knees. Better be careful he might fasll off his wallet. He is clearly as we know - not very clever in worldly matters and politics - and with 5 whole months before it happens ... well really anything could happen.. including an F1 walkout.
I unfortunately missed a few laps and came in when the Hampster had already taken an early bath - but what is absolutely infouriating me is that under red flag they again permit tyre changes. Who is responsible for this rule bending? It is totally unfair on the guys who have done 1-2 and in buttons case 3 pitstops (and still 11th) - it is making me sufficiently angry to stop watching altogether.

Oh dear, you have missed an absolute blinder. After the final safety car start, with button having come in four times and also had a drive through, he found himself in 22 place and 10 seconds off the back of the pack....Guess who won!!!
