Time to sample Audi's new clever-clogs V8 that thinks it's a four-pot

@ Grunt
1975kg is the weight without the notional 75kg extra (68kg driver and 7kg luggage). And that 1975kg includes a 90%-full fuel tank
@ Halfabee
Well aware of that, and if any of them are sensible they'll all be coughing for winter tyres right about now

Halfabee - I live were it snows 7 months in a year. You will be surprised how much safer a 4WD car is. Remember driving is not only about stopping but about also about starting and turning. A lot of manufacturers sell more AWD than 2WD (Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, etc). A lot of high end cars are put in storage during winter because it is just that hard to drive if you cannot move easily.
My driveway is inclined at less than 5% and driving up this on a snowy day in a 2WD, winter tires or not, takes some level of drifting/sliding skills - gather momentum, turn and slide, hope things go as anticipated.
Just saying you need 4 wheels to stop and 4 wheels to start in extreme conditions

Yet another boring Audi. I don't care if it has 100000 bhp, it still looks like an £80,000 A4.

@motormojo
I know I’m a cynical old curmudgeon but if this thing came up in my rear view mirror (ala picture number nine) I would have no idea whether I was about to be overtaken (as I invariably am with Audi’s) by an A4 an A6 or an A sharp major.
I'd hazard that the driver of that car overtaking you is less self-conscious than you are and doesn't give a damn about what you know or think...
Hell is other people.

Fair point - As Audi is just about the most common thing I see on the motorways these days (and trust me I spend far to much time on them) maybe I should just let them get to that vital meeting unhindered by my temerity.

Re the benefits of 4WD in winter (Ben and Houdini's comments on my earlier post.)
In this country, where we maybe get a bad winter once in a while, winter tyres are a much better bet than 4WD because they help with grip for going, turning and stopping. In more extreme conditions 4WD may be an advantage - but then most of my Scandinavian friends drive 2WD and stick on winter tyres, and don't see the need for 4WD: if it did provide such a demonstrable benefit then why don't 4WD vehicles dominate the local markets in such regions?
Anyway it's a dull and pointless photo-copier Audi that doesn't warrant the attention we are giving it.

Just the typical bile from the usual suspects. Who can tell the difference between a 3- and 7-series, or a C- or S-Class? But it's always Audi photocopier. And even when something different is attempted, it's 'been done before'. Then 4WD is more likely to get you into an accident. And you'll only get 7mpg if you thrash it.
Just pathetic.

you are wrong, you can tell the difference between a C and S, along with a 3 and 7 easily. As for Audi they do seem to use a photocopier every single time. As for the Audi S8, it doesn't look and feel special enough to be from the Audi GmbH or S/RS wing.
