Gentlemen,
as we all know, certain cars possess a stronger allure than others. And while no single element could be taken off these special machines, there are, more often than not, small areas - or that spot - which make them appear somewhat magical. Bent metal, lines and shapes, which pull your eyes towards them each and every time.
Talk about the magicin the mundane.
I rest my case by highlighting my favourite area of the XJ4's shape (and apologise for the less than optimal photo - light conditions weren't exactly ideal).

The XM has a few of those. There´s a rounded corner at the back of the car I can´t help admiring. It´s a really nice pressing, the junction of three different radii that are blended expertly. And I like the way the full-width light covers on the rear is gently inset. Less careful designers might have left it flat and it would have looked the same from a metre away.

Do you think it needs to be a metallic detail Kubrick? I do. There is something about managing the bend radii that is much more difficult than doing the same with vastly more fluid plastic. There has to be the will to push it through the necessary engineering hurdles without compromise, the ability to convince everyone in the factory that such a detail is vital to the integrity of the design.
Oooh shiny!

I would say the rear glass and butress of the Citroen C6.
Or the up kink almost at the very rear of the boot of the 1988 BMW 7 series.
I can´t say the C6 does anything for me. The rear lights and rear bumper look too much like Citroen were trying to reduce the amount of metal they had to press. The big radius on the boot looks awkward. While we´re mourning Saab, I can mention the gentle ridge on the bonnet of the 99. That was a lovely touch. The sculpture of the last BMW 5´s wing and bonnet also deserves a mention.
