I thought so. The rear lamps seem to really scrape the barrel of what´s possible in design. They were better off using something less "original" but nicer. Nobody would have complained.

Sales would go through the floor and it would be full of articles on boot space, ashtrays and China market saloon variants of rubbish European hatchbacks.

Yes you would but aren't we becoming a bit jaded with the latest supercar reviews? It was an event once and now there are simply so many ways to read about every nuance of theses performace cars from inspiration to development to implementation and finally driving them that it has almost become exhausting. Where will the current 10 year old child read about Mum's new Nissan or his stepfather's Mondeo? How can he gauge whether he feels the firm ride the roadtester mentioned on the soft touch plastic on the door cappings? The link then is missing from the familiar to the fantastic so that the reader can make the difference at least relative in their mind.
What would be the plainest car currently on sale in Britain? Or indeed Denmark?
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.
I agree. I learned a lot of engineering from CAR which is not really true now. When did you last read about an engine being oversquare or otherwise.
I´ll have to search my databanks for a really plain car. My old favourite plain car was the Chevrolet Epica. Perhaps the plainest thing now is a base model Skoda Octavia or a mid-sized Kia with no toys at all and a grey interior.
Yes it is difficult to separate the plain from the bad. I think the Yaris saloon is the plainest (yet still OK) car we have on sale here. Truly an amazing car. A step down is the Proton range, which are perilously close to being too poor to be simply plain but are then entirely ruled out by carrying the most excruciatingly bad TV commericals.

Until Dacia is launched here, the Hyundai i10 maybe? But even that probably has too much kit and is fitted with half-decent trim.

Hell is other people.
Actually since the Epica is no longer on sale (if it was ever sold here in the first place that is), but the outgoing Kia Ceed is, then maybe that is the benchmark here...

Yes the Epica was sold here and it was an epic failure.
We got the ceed here as well but it doesn't really count because it has just been replaced, great effort though Sam.
Do really think the Dacia plain? I would have thought it an OK, somewhat interesting device. This gives me an idea for a new thread.
@Batty
I know you're up all night and sleep all day, but please try and keep up...
My question was: 'was the Epica ever sold here?' i.e. in the UK, not the colonies.
The new Ceed has also been launched here, but if you look carefully at the link I posted you will see that the old one is still available for a while HERE.
As for Dacia, before the Duster (which is probably the one you're thinking about), the brand was (re)launched with the Logan and the Sandero, which were very plain indeed.
Ahhh I missed the "too" in my sentence, so forgive me schoolmaster Sam. By way of interest we were almost a French colony, Cook narrowly beat La Perouse (now a affluent suburb in Sydney); I've often wondred if we would have been better off? At least we would be drving on the correct side of the motorway and have some lovely bread and pastries.
And I maintain that it has been replaced on both continents so doesn't count. AND, the Yaris is plainer so I stick my tongue out to you and say in my broad Australian "get a dog up ya".
Yes the Logan is very plain but I think the Sandero has a certain interest.
