I'll give Corsica a vote too. Stunning landscape with roads cutting through incredible gaps. We've been there twice and we'll be back again. Make sure you hire a car with a bit more power than the bargain basement as the roads really are very steep in places.

Re: Best driving road

I suppose this proves that despite all the congestion and GATSOs and speed limit cuts there are still plenty of roads out there well worth driving for pleasure, if you know where to look.

And, while some may object to any suggestion of finding pleasure in driving, surely being able to drive enthusiastically but legally (ish) along an open rural main road subject to the National Speed Limit is the best way of enjoying it. To quote from the IAM's Advanced Driving Manual (and you can hardly accuse them of an irresponsible attitude):

The most enjoyable driving you ever do comes on quiet country roads with all their variety of interesting corners, open views of the road, gentle ups and downs and pleasant scenery. Cornering your car with precision, at a confident but safe speed, is part of the pleasure.

It's gourmet spam, finely crafted (or lifted) and on-topic - and yet still spam.  How unfortunate that the links were transcribed instead of created...NOT.

Subtle indeed mate. At least now his posts looks like a credible contribution to the thread.

Re: Best driving road

just choose a country town destination that looks about 50 miles away over some hills, dare I suggest in Lancashire?, and then plug shortest route into Tom Tom instead of fastest, you'll be amazed at the byways you'll find.  Stop for lunch and an alcohol free something to drink, rinse and repeat.

Seriously, though, I lack up to date local knowledge because of a slight geography problem.  I'm in Germany, and have been for almost 10 years...
