My lottery garage

Right; This must be a conversation that every petrolhead in the land has had with likeminded mates at some point. Your 6 numbers come up on Saturday, and you win £20,000,000 - what cars would be in your dream garage?

A few rules - cars must be real, no Batmobiles or Whacky Races cars! (although, will allow cars pending release etc, EG the Porsche Panamera - if you really want to prove that money doesn't buy you taste! )  Secondly, a maximum of 5 cars, so not to have a Lambo/ Enzo/ Porsche/ Maclaran/  SL Black & 15 other supercars just because you can!

Also, a description, brief or otherwise of why said cars warrent space in your jumbo garage if you can........

They say that a dog is mans best friend. This simple experiment proves this. Lock your missus and your dog in the boot of your car. Return to let them out after an hour and see which one is most pleased to see you....

4 Porsches a Ford and an Aston? I could be wrong but im guessing you might be a bit of a Porsche fanboy...

Is your 917 road legal or just a trackday car? Im guessing the 962 is the Dauer road legal version but of course that could still be another track only car!

Road legal would be good.  What a dream to drive to the track and then home again after a hard days driving.

Yep, you guessed it.  I do love a Posche

Bert Nairobi´s fantasy garage.

Welcome.

Here in the corner we have a fictional 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia with the 1.6 litre engine, navy body and grey cloth upholstery. The Silentbloc bushes are a bit clonky.
Over here, past the coffee machine, is my slightly dented Citroen CX 2400 Prestige. I don´t think these cars should look too clean. I like the idea of faded hi-tech.
Here, under the sheet, is my Citroen DS 23, a late model to which I´ve retro-fitted an early dashboard. It´s in black with red cloth trim.
Here is a phantasmagoric Bentley T4, mid 70s, I think. 12,000 k on the clock. Brown with black leather. I use it to collect people from the airport.
Now this, this thing is a Subaru XT. The interior is wierd. Look at that single spoke steering wheel.
This oddball is a Lancia Kappa coupe with the V6, the most underpowered engine in the range, oddly.
I have a thing about crap American cars so I have this pretend 1989 Cadillac Seville coupe. It has a massive engine but can only do 110 mph. It´s very comfy.
My other crap American car is a 1995 Buick Park Avenue. It´s surprisingly good to drive. Best thing GM ever made.
The Cadillac´s alter ego is this here completely imaginary Bristol 411 in burgundy. I use it to pretend to drive to Geneva at the weekends.
This one is a Fiat 130 saloon. Rare. I fantasised about driving it to Spain but the carburettors acted up and I had to rent a Seat Leon. Yuk.
Finally, here is a Lancia Trevi 2000 There are only about 500 hundred left. I love the Bellini-designed dashboard.
And also finally, a Peugeot 604L. Worthless but still very well made. I had the body stripped and galvanised, in a non-real way, of course. I had the Douvrin engine removed and replaced with a modern Peugeot diesel unit.

Subaru XT? Now I thought I was the only person in the world to think that the XT was an extremely interesting piece of kit. Alfa, Lancia, Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Amercian (wrong decade for my taste), lovely.

Discerning, intelligent and articulate: I'm sure your wife (or partner, excuse my presumptiousness), is similarly charming. Thank you.

Yes, it is a very interesting piece of kit, but whilst I have never driven one I wonder if it would be any good?

Great post tho bertandnairobi!

Re: My lottery garage

time for someone brave to bring an XT into the noughties?..Compare and contast with the curvy Fuego, too.  Probably get away with four right and be able to afford one.

Apropo lottery, €35 mill this weekend in Germany.  Probably be won by a Dutch tourist!

Her butt looks like a couple of badly parked VW Beetles in those slacks

Re: My lottery garage

Thanks to all who read the previous posts. There is so little known about the XT but I wonder if it was a design originally intended for Citroen. It looks vaguely Bertone, doesn´t it?

My fantasy garage was a load of classics. But  let´s say money is no object but the cars have to be in production. What does my contemporary dream/delusional garage look like? I´ll try to think of ten cars but might not be able to achieve this.

1) A Bristol Blenheim but, if at all possible, I´d try to ask them to put in a better dashboard. The cars are made by hand so surely 50 grand can convince them to try something else.
2) The only BMW I will admit to liking is the widely despised 1-series coupe. But it´s a small, nimble sports car, as close to the BMW 2002 and Alfa Giulia mould as one can get today.
3) Ford Focus hardtop convertible in full Ghia-spec. I´ll specify a warm-brown interior.
4) Lancia Delta. Someone has to like these cars. Turns out it´s me. I don´t know what I´d use it for but I´ll think of something for it to do.
5) Ford Crown Victoria. For comedy reasons. It´s cheap and cheerful, practical and simple.
6) An Alfa GT. The case has already been made for this car. It´s lovely.
7) Toyota Century. For all my limousine needs.  Incredibly well made and joyfully naff.
8) Of course, one has to have a Peugeot in a fantasy garage. I´ll pick a 607 in 2 litre guise. It´s my fantasy garage so I don´t have to explain why this car is here. Since I already have a mass-market saloon in the form of the Ford, the presence of the 607 is down entirely to my capricious and wilful personality. Did I tell you I own a hat?

You´ll notice Aston Martin, Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati have all failed to earn any of my fictional wealth. Not so long ago I would have put an Aston in the fictional stable but now they leave me unmoved. I find the idea of having to stop every two hours to put petrol in a car utterly stupid. For a proper example of the stupidly fast 2-seater, please check out the Bristol Fighter.

The Toyota Crown covers the limousine-needs the Maserati Quattroporte might satisfy. I just don´t need a limousine that can lap the `ring in under eight minutes. The BMW 1 is a car with useable performance whereas the other bigger sports cars offer performance at that part of the spectrum where it is least likely to be used. I don´t like racing circuits. I´ve left out the Citroen C6. It´s simply not really very good and the Crown Vic is a better response to the big/comfy question than the overdone Citroen, in my view. From this I´ve learned that I don´t care too much about really fast driving. Hmmm. But I do care about driving quality (so Mr Plankton, why have you included a Crown Vic,?)

Re: My lottery garage

Thanks. Other people´s lists were saner than mine. I should limit myself to five.

I´ll have to lose the Lancia, the Peugeot and the Crown Vic, in a tragic insurance fire.

If the fire keeps raging in the fantasy garage, the BMW is toast. Only the keyfob remains.

It´s still burning. The Toyota´s started smouldering. Oh dear.  It was the only one in Denmark.

What´s left: Bristol, Alfa, Ford. I´m mad.  Time for a Hamlet.

Great posting Bert (is it Bert I presume?) you show a real passion for cars which is what this site is about. A Peugeot 607 - you'd need to be a lottery winner to afford the depriciation ! Hee hee!!
