One other thing, the Lincoln Continental from 1961, was called by CAR "the black car to end all black cars." I think this is also a cool car, even if it is American. It was cool possibly because it was the product of a certain military-technical culture which flowered for 20 years after WW2 but which has since died. They don´t do cool cars in the US any more. At the moment Audi´s A5 coupe or VWs Passat coupe are the coolest vehicles on sale in Europe. In black, of course.

For me a Mercedes S Class too, but the earlier W109 in 300 SEL 6.3 form. I looked for a photo of a dusty one, which would be ‘cooler’ but I quite like this photo of it being hauled around - I assume the Geschaftsfuhrer is late for his board meeting. I nominated a worn W123 Estate elsewhere, so here is a one-off 6.3 litre estate which should, in theory, be ‘double-cool’, but somehow isn’t.

The Stradale is very nice, so very beautiful but too showy to be truly cool.

Another vote for the Ghibli from me but I also want to add the Khamsin, less well known which adds to its coolness. Also the Alfa Montreal and the Jensen Interceptor.
