Re: Forgettable Cars..if we can remember them

GM have just launched a new forgettable car. Again I ask, what else could have been done with the money other than spend it on dross like this?

Nope the new one is the facelift(if there is one) for the New Micra. If you wathched 'About a Boy' last night it was advertsised as the 'New' Micra before and after the ad breaks. Don't get me wrong I pretty much know every car on the road (within reason) and what trim spec it is, due to the a mount of chrome and quite often whether the wheels are an optional extra or not. Knowledge eh? But this New Micra confusesed me, every time it was on I focused on another part but reallu couldn't fatham what ws new.

Not this one.

And bertandnairobi, my family had a Beta saloon (which instilled my love of Lancia) until it was written off by a SUV, and it had blue velour interior- and it was nice actually. AND, I have a Fiat 131 supermirafiori which I adore for its simplicity. So I feel a real affinity for your earlier post.

That model of S40 was a Mitsubishi Charisma under the skin.

The only car ever made with a less appropriate name was the Fiat Uno Start.

I read your neat commentary bertandnairobi and then I closed my eyes and tried to imagine the car. all I could see were your leaders and descriptions. Your argument appears conclusive.

Well not entirely Robby, Uno means one, so it does seem appropriate after all!

How many Cortinas bodystyles were there? Honesty here now, no online research. This could be a battle between car4mh & Reg.

My guess is five.

4 I'd say, or 5 if you count the last varient that I'd say was a facelift.

Re: Forgettable Cars..if we can remember them

I'd go with 4 honest and one big facelift for version 5

  1. CND rear lamps, Lotus Cortina fighting Ford Galaxies (didn't the marketing departments speak to one another, or was it all planned?)
  2. squared edges, another Lotus Cortina. Yum.
  3. coke bottle, nice shades of brown, gold, vinyl roof, and so on
  4. corners and edges again, signal yellow, bright red, plain white..
  5. facelifted corners and edges, the Sierra had to come.

and then of course there was the Ford Taunus, a re-nosed Cortina (with sometimes more interesting engines)

Her butt looks like a couple of badly parked VW Beetles in those slacks

MPI - I think MSN have used your thread for inspiration with this article of theirs; Top 50 most forgotten cars. A few I'd forgotten about!

I think Batty is either Lord Lucan or Colin Chapman. Or, possible, Richie Edwards.

Can I claim my prize now, please?
