The DS5 simply doesn´t look presidential.

Again, a deliberate choice. He arrived at the Elysee Palace in the C5 he used during the campaign, and could have headed out  in a C6 but chose not to.

StE is on to something here. I'm sure the choice of vehicle was given a great deal of thought. A big part of a modern leader's role is to promote the economic interests of their country. PSA has been putting much effort into rejuvenating Citroen, and what better way to bring global attention to the DS5 than to have Mr Hollande seen riding in it. Whatever the DS5's image was, it now includes possible transportation for world leaders. I'm sure PSA would like leaders at all levels in society to consider the DS5 - and perhaps they will be more inclined to do that now. Wheeling out the classic SM might have struck some sentimental chords with people who can remember back more than 20 years, while riding in one of Sarkoszy's cars would have sent the wrong message. France voted for change, and they are already getting it with Hollande and the DS5. I wish France, Hollande and Citroen all the best.

On a Pedant's Corner point, you'd be excused for assuming it's a Simca, but actually it's a Citroen 15H, bodied by Chapron - not his best effort.  Another Presidential Citroen is this DS.

Three other possible options for Presidential transport that would mark out FH as a patriot who doesn't want to fritter away his country's money.

Better top view indeed - where we discover that the canvas roof is actually a shower curtain!

I wasn't aware of the existence of the Paladine. It won't be long before Bertandnairobi comes tell us that it looks more like the real deal for a Head of State, or that he is scouring the classifieds for a mint bargain...
