Motoring apps

Good afternoon, forum faithful. We're on the hunt for the best motoring-related apps. And where better to ask than here, with our cutting-edge, no-nonsense forum users.

Do you rate any iPhone/Blackberry/Android apps with a motoring connection? Are there some that you rate very highly indeed? If so, please comment here and help us compile a shortlist of the best available.

Thank you in advance!

TP

Re: Motoring apps

Hello Uncle Tim,

Unfortunately I am completely hopeless at this sort of thing, perhaps one of the more tech savvy younger folk may know some.

Nice to know we are still thought of though!

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

Re: Motoring apps

Sorry, I can´t help. I don´t own a mobile 'phone. I gave up using one in 2003. It was a relief not to have the thing glaring at me or distracting me during conversations. Without a mobile I am without apps and without internet access. And all I can say is that this puts me in a very small minority of people and that it is probably good for my little mind. I could understand that some people, especially journalists could not afford or tolerate such a stance. So, while I don´t own a mobile I am not a vehement hater of them either.

Well I am old and completely out of touch with things for at least until they have no longer become a fad, and the price has dropped by 600% and they have been updated and modified umpteen times and finally replaced by another super dooper high tech non understandable gibberish written in print that needs a magnifying glass. But I will buy a GPS system for xmas because the weather today was so bad with gale force winds and heavy snow that I couldnt even find my road!. Hopefully iy works in the snow??

Meanwhile - I thought the following might come in useful for those whose wife bought a great car on the internet and then discovered the wheel was on the wrong side - so using her finest engineering ability fixed the problem !! You gotta love it

A most disappointing trawl for you so far Tim. I have tried BMW's MPower app, which I believe I saw mentioned in Car. Supposed to measure acceleration times, I can't say I've had a convincing result from it yet but, bearing in mind the lousy GPS performance of my iPhone, I'm hardly surprised. Or maybe its sensors told it I wasn't actually driving a BMW.

D'oh! This is a case of the new forum thread disappearing - I only noticed it because of seant's recent comment.

As mentioned, the article has appeared in the magazine already (the current edition, P. 24).  Wish I'd known, I have a heap of (mostly marketing gimmick) car-related free apps on my iPhone.

I don't think your life will be incomplete if you avoid downloading the various marketing apps (take a photo of your house and park a Porsche in front of it! Pick a colour and see your new Nissan Cube in 3D! Watch BMW video clips!).  But here's some which were worth the free download and are relevant internationally.

If you like rallying, then both the WRC and IRC have free apps offering news and results functionality equivalent to the F1 app.  But the independent iRally app covers both series so if you only want 1 rally app, that's the one to download.

It would be great if there was a CAR app - if only to allow iPhone users to post comments on articles and in the forum - currently not possible through the iPhone's web browser.

Re: Motoring apps

Hi there! Have you heard of CarCrazee? It's a photo sharing and social networking car application specially designed for all car enthusiasts. Well, it's not exactly the motoring app which you are looking for but might as well give it a try. It's compatible with iOS devices and available for free so there's nothing to lose. I bet you will surely enjoy using it!

Hope this one helps! :)
