car4mh said: All this talk of mobile homes cluttering up the world's scenic drives has reminded me of the horror of the house truck. They are the reason I have vowed to always separate accommodation from transportation when travelling. The house truck is perhaps the perfect anti-car, built with a great deal of peace, love and recreational substances but no automotive enthusiasm whatsoever upon the dilapidated chassis of whatever tired truck or bus can be bartered for organic knitwear, aromatherapy oils, an astrological reading and some life-affirming crystals. Guaranteed to turn the mildest-mannered gentleman driver into a rabid, seething 'outoftheway, peasants!' lights-flashing tailgater when encountered on a winding 2-lane country road. I don't know if Europe or America has any of these (if they did exist they would more likely be reviewed by Kevin McCloud than His Clarkson-ness) but to encounter one of these mobile chalets on a sunday morning backroads blast is a fate worse than Ssangyong ownership.

Good Lord car4mh and I thought our US R/V'ers were OTT and excessive . I'm afraid the Bad Taste in Road Vehicles Award goes to these Kiwi Road House types that have us beat hands down. We've got the occasional crack pot redneck that'll home build a P/U Topper out of wood to save money but theses things . Yeeesh !
@Seant - On the Euro R/V's . I'm not convinced

Gtrslngr. OK. I'll get a chip upgrade for the Turbo Diesel and tape down the lace curtains. Then it's you, me and a 2 lap ticket at the 'Ring plus cold beers and a full cooked breakfast when we stop.
Car4mh. Those house trucks are rather seductive and no less than I'd expect from what we now think of as the Land of the Hobbit. I really like the top one with a modern US RV type slide out unit.

And the bloke on the M1 early this morning in the Silver Vectra who really really annoyed me, you know who you are !!
Actually I'm now finding this quite therapeutic - so add to list the : A14 (all of it) and the M11. Ye gods what a couple of horrendous strips of tarmac they are !
There - feel a bit better now.
And I might have to take back what I said about caravans. I thought it was the caravan that slowed down the car, but apparently it's the other way round.
Seant : This must be the reason why so many of the damned things have a Rover 25 attached to the front - to stop them taking off and attacking my beloved Merc Sprinters.

Seant ; You're on . But which car should I bring ? The MINI Cooper or my dads old VW Micro Bus Westphalia conversion . You stand a better chance against the VW . But ahh....... I should warn you . One of my POCA mates stuffed a 911 engine in it for him . ZOOM !
OK most OTT Caravan I've ever laid eyes on . Sorry no photos but here's the scoop .
Based on a Peterbuilt Semi . 40 ft long . With sides and top that expanded . Towing a trailer with ;
1 - Mercedes Benz M Class
2- Harley Davidson Road Kings
2- Piaggio Scooter
1- 20 ft Speed Boat ( on top with motorized lifts )
2- Kayaks
Talk about wretched excess !

Gtrslngr. I should warn you. The lap time includes chilling the beers and cooking the breakfast. Your Not-So-Mini Cooper doesn't look so clever now does it?

seant ; OK dads Westphalia it is . Best time ( and best cooked breakfast ) BEER with Breakfast ??
wins . Third party ( car4mh or Batty ) to be the judge of the breakfast . Got to warn you though . I've got a heads up on car4mh's tastes .
Lets see now . The menu . Thats right ;
1 lb of BBQ beef ribs
1 lb BBQ pork ribs
1/2 link BBQ sausage
1/2 lb potato salad ( cold )
1/2 lb Cole Slaw ( American style )
Two pints Dark Lager
One XL hunk of double chocolate cake
1 pot of dark brewed coffee
Is that right car4mh ? Lets see seant match that ! Got this one in the bag .

When your car breaks, as mine has just done. Makes one very grumpy indeed. Oh and clutches that are adjusted to take up right at the top or the bottom of their travel. Why?
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.
