If Ford can make a sufficient profit from its line of products, then yes.

That's probably what Ford's beancounters are saying. But Wall Street also demands profit growth. In a couple of years time, as the One Ford lineup matures, where is the growth going to come from? Ford kept going too long with Henry's one and only Model T in the 1920s and opened the door for General Motors in the US and companies such as Austin in the UK. History has a habit of repeating itself. At Geneva, Ford said that they are a "technology company now". Well Ford, so is everybody else! Where is the plan for growth?

Re: The 2011 Frankfurt Forecaster

Back on topic, I've been trying to figure what French manufacturers were going to present to the public in Frankfurt. In the comments that followed Geneva one reader bemoaned the absence of big releases from the French trio but I think traditionally they keep their big announcements for Paris (obviously) and Frankfurt.

So what can we expect, other than the usual mad (or not so mad) concepts? Based on info published and a few guesses:

Renault: apart from the next installment in their EV range (Zoe and whatever the van is called),  a new Clio and a new Espace are well overdue, a facelifted Megane and maybe a convertible.

Peugeot: new 208 and108 (together with new C1 and Aygo) are expected, plus some electric offering (obligatory). What else? Maybe a new large MPV (808) and smaller vehicles (1008, 2008) to broaden the range.

Citroen: new C1 as mentioned above, and maybe some new DS models (DS5 most likely?). Can't think of anything else right now.

AReader - there's nothing original or creative about mentioning Audi and photocopiers in the same sentence.

That's your opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I'm entitled to my opinion - and I liked it. We can't hit home runs all the time. Sometimes we just have to bunt to keep the game going - to use another phrase from Baseball - and hope that something better will come along with the next pitch. We shall have to agree to differ on this one. Have a good day!

The reason why I called it the 8 series is because I hate all this 'i' stuff. It's bad enough with hifi's and stuff. Thats all. Just find it annoying that even BMW would resort to it. Why not the letter 'e' or something to go inline with their efficient dynamics.

in this case it's not an opinion, it's a fact. Just go back to recent news pieces on new Audis (A6, RS3 and A3 concept at Geneva are the latest) and you'll see what I mean.

The only two facts I care about are 1) I liked Joe's post, and 2) that thanks to you it was deleted.

my point wasn't about what it will be called (I couldn't care less personally) but about BMW developing a parallel range with different drivetrains and design 'language'. Very bold move on their part in my opinion.

That's quite a lazy opinion StE. Everybody thinks the i8 is bold. Can't you be more original than that?

that's not what I said. Just read my post and it will make sense eventually. If it doesn't, no worries.

All I care about is that, like Joe, the i8 gets made and looks as close as possible to the proto being tested at the moment. But I'm also curious to see what people's reaction will be towards the traditional range becoming more conservative/samey/dull/boring (take your pick) by comparison to the Bangle era and the new 'i' range.
