Jaguar XJ (2010) in Iceland: a video trailer

How about driving the XJ around Cologne or Berlin or perhaps Aachen. That would provide some nice backdrops and a chance to test the car under autobahn conditions. Or if Bauer have some armed guards and full insurance for their staff, how about driving the car in Moscow.

The "opulence amidst poverty" angle has been done plenty of times, whether it be in CAR or on TV with Top Gear. I don't think we need to see it again, particularly given that the Jaguar is less than half the price of the Rolls-Royce Ghost featured in a recent CAR journey through rural California.

It might be more relevant to take it through a region that's in a major state of optimistic change. India springs to mind, which is maybe too obvious given the corporate connection. Or somewhere very lush, tropical and sparsely populated as a contrast to the high-tech XJ. I can't remember seeing a trek across Costa Rica before, for example.

I quite agree. But never underestimate the capacity of marketing people to completely miss the point. Brand is all - unless it's possible to cobble together a tacky promotion on the cheap...

I would go further - take the XJ on a tour of the bankrupt 'tiger' economies - Iceland, Ireland, Greece - and let the peasants gawp at what they can no longer afford. The Jag could be presented as a poignant and heart-rending visual metaphor for greed, aspiration and the transience of dreams.

And in Jaguar's case, unfortunate timing...
