Stupid names for cars aren’t new. We’re had the Nissan Gloria, the Ford Probe and the Mazda Bongo Brawny van after all. But in the long roll call of daft designations, the Kia pro_cee’d (note the lower case ‘p’, the underscore and apostrophe) takes top prize. The pro_cee’d is the three-door sportier version of the cee’d, the new European-built Kia five-door hatch.
The cee’d name, should you be wondering, comes from the car’s French designer (Gregory Guillaume) who – mindful that this is a European designed and built car – decided on calling it after the French for EEC: CEE. Then he added ED (for European Design). Because ceeed would have been an even stupider name, the enterprising Guillaume apostrophised it to cee’d. And the ‘pro’ bit for the new three-door variant? Well that just sounded good, or so someone thought. So to what is probably the least desirable car brand in Britain – Kia – add probably the daftest model name. Brilliant.
Yes it is. Forget about all those horrible old Kias of a few years ago (and even the new Korean-built ones have price as their main virtue). The cee’d hatch and this new model, the three-door pro_cee’d, are European standard cars in all but name. Designed by Kia in Germany, built by Kia in a high-tech factory in Slovakia.
The Proceed (can we forget about all the crazy punctuation please?) looks good in a slightly Euro-derivative way (think three-door Astra but with a bit less jewellery). It’s lower and longer than a cee’d; only the bonnet and front wings are borrowed. Proportions are excellent, stance is good. Build quality is also first rate. And the cabin is minimalist mix of nicely tactile plastics and alloy trim. It’s one of the nicest interiors in the Golf-sized hatch class. A first for a Korean car.

RE: Kia Proceed 2.0 CRDi CAR review
Actually the Mazda Bongo Friendee & Ford Freda are an extremely versatile 'weekender' being able to transport 8 people confortably, sleep 4 persons, have the ability of cooking and washing facilities and yet be suitable for normal daily use. It hosts a very lively yet economical 2.5 Turbo Diesel, 2000cc petrol or 2.5 V6 Petrol engine. Our models can come with or without electric elevated roof, with or without camping conversions of your choice.

I'm Amazed
I'm flying London to Germany and back on Ryanair for £39. That's 1p to Germany and £4.99 back (the other £34 is Govt tax). That's amazing! And for a Kia this cars pretty amazing too. Europe needs to wake up quickly. They may be thrashing the Yanks on quality but the Asians are catching up fast on design with the battlefront on price already won. As Ryanairs price shows we Europeans can be very innovative on price but the 'Government Disease' of taxing, legislating and bungling is becoming a crippling high price to shoulder and cannot be sustained if we're to compete in tomorrows fast changing world markets.

This just in...
The Renault Laguna estate car reviewed elsewhere on these pages weighs 1513kg and has a diesel engine too. The Proceed weighs 1499 kg. That´s a 14 kilo difference or equivalent to as much luggage as Ryanair will let you take on board before confiscating your life´s savings. Are you not all as amazed as I am? Go on, admit it, you're all amazed.

To judge from
...the majority of the comments, Kia are on to something, despite the daft moniker. About the bronze shield...obviously this system can´t detect posts from before the site was upgraded. I must have posted more than thirty items in the last year... I´ll have to find something more to say..

Good Proceed
Snobs may not prefer this to Golf, although it's not far away. It may not have funky turbo engines or clever gearboxes, but who needs them anyway? I'd have this over a standard Golf because it's cheaper, comes with nicer guaranty and I'm sure it would be way more reliable. I have a Golf IV now and the many faults I'm experiencing are not what I expected from an expensive hatch. And for sure I would prefer this Kia to the equivalent and hideous French and to the Focus and the Astra, and of course the Toyota Ouris. And to top it, just think how much Nissan is asking for that monster the Tiida. I think a lot of people think like me and this is an awesome achievement from Kia.
