It’s judgement day for the new McLaren 12C! Watch Chris Chilton’s video road test of the 592bhp supercar, Britain’s answer to the sensational Ferrari 458 Italia.

Chris flew to Portugal in late January, one of only 30 journalists from around the world invited to test prototype versions of the 12C. He drove the twin-turbo V8 sports car on both the Portimao track and on the road.

The McLaren’s standout feature is its sensational turn of speed. Only two cars have left Chris gasping for words under full acceleration: the 987bhp Bugatti Veyron and now the McLaren. But there’s more to any car than blinding pace. How does the 12C sound? Does it have the brutal ride of a racing car? And is the steering as incisive as a Ferrari’s?

Absolutely superb in every respect. People tend to buy Ferraris for the badge. People will buy the MP4-12C for the tech, which is truly in another league. I am sure when the first Ferrari road car was launched, people said it lacked soul and heritage versus established marques such as Alfa-Romeo and Jaguar. Years later, Ferrari has become more than an icon, it is a standard by which others are measured. Now, at last, it has a true rival and one that may well eclipse it. The McLaren is a car i want much more than the Ferrari 458.

It is epic this car, quite an achievement as McLaren build & designed this car from scratch even making it's own engine (The F1 did not have it's own engine but BMW's heavily reworked V12).

The design, well maybe not as dramatic as the 458 but it does look like an updated F1 design. The back end looks good and that will be the part most people will be able to see.

Thanks for the great videos!! The great debate has already started here ie can the anal retentive McL company beat the stylistic pizzaz of the the fezza. Essentially is there room to squeeze in one more player at the top of the game? I would think given the 1000 per year volume, surely its possible especially with the halo effect of the F1 team !!

I cant wait for the lower McL range planned for the 60k market segment. At least I would be able to buy one and vote with my pounds.

We can only want this great company to succeed. not only because its British but also for its innovation , sheer will and tenacity.
