RE: Mercedes E63 AMG Estate (2011) long-term test review
@ Houdini - 'how did you come to the conclusion that this LTT is not relevant to majority of readers? What did you base this on?' Well let me see, how many have you seen parked on a surburban street? How many have you seen on a daily basis full stop?? This is a very special car for the very fortunate who can afford one. Don't get me wrong, if you can afford one, than I'm happy for you. No envy here. If you enjoyed reading about it, fine. I did in some respects but for the reasons I outlined in my first comment, my overall impression however was that it was an indulgence disguised as a LTT.

JohnnyD, how did you come to the conclusion that this LTT is not relevant to majority of readers? What did you base this on? I really enjoyed reading about this LTT; user experience, wear, sportiness, long term flaws, etc Also, an ideal family car does not have to be sub 20K and return 100mpg. It is usually about space and comfort More of this type of LTT please

Probably the least satisfying long-term test car from a readers point of view. Ok, so no one who loves cars is going to turn their nose up at an AMG on their drive and I certainly wouldn't. But, but, I'm scratching my head to figure out if this 'long-term test review' has any relevance what so ever to the majority of readers? As the last comment from Halfabee points out, 6.3 litre, £91k, sub 20mpg 'family car'?! What exactly have we learnt? It's bloody quick, bloody huge and bloody expensive to buy and run. Could have garnered that from the first drive review! A few years back Ben Oliver ran a second hand Bentley Continental. That's a route that should be explored in future when dealing with the these mega cars. At least then the majority of readers may just a flavour of real world ownership. Until then lets stick to hooning these things around on great drive stories around the world.

Headline 'the ideal family car'. Absolutely not: at £91, 000, 6.3 litres, and sub-20 mpg you must be joking. Perhaps CAR staff should start paying for their cars and petrol, then they might join the real world.
