Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC (2013) long-term test review

Rated 3 out of 53

the CAR road test team, 17 April 2013 07:00

Month 5 running a honda Civic i-VTEC - storage issues in the CAR fleet Civic Finally more or less inured to the endless litany of ‘crashed dirigible on the roof’ jokes, I’d thought it sensible to leave the top box in place for our remaining Civic tenure. Not, however, sensible at all it transpires… ‘How,’ demanded the missus the other ...

Ollie Kew, 08 April 2013 12:45

The upcoming Honda Civic Tourer has been spotted testing under camouflage for the first time. The car’s styling will closely resemble that of the Civic Tourer concept first unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show. Honda’s 2014 Civic Tourer: the details so far Inspired by the Accord and Civic ‘Aero Deck’ models of the 1980s and 1990s, the Civic uses ...

Honda Civic's frugal 2013 DTEC diesel: more info

Rated 3 out of 53

Ollie Kew, 02 November 2012 15:58

Honda will equip its current Civic hatch with a 1.6-litre diesel engine from early in 2013. The engine is, Honda claims, the cleanest, most frugal engine in its class, and will offer diesel Civic buyers up to 78.5mpg, according to the company's figures. The downsized 1.6 derv will also see duty in the new CR-V soft-roader later on in 2013. ...

Honda Civic Type R (2013) prototype spy photos

Rated 3 out of 53

Tim Pollard, 01 June 2012 09:11

These new spy photos reveal a prototype for what looks like a future Honda Civic Type-R. The regular Civic hatch went on sale in 2011, and the company has built go-faster Type-R hot hatch versions for the past two generations. This is the first evidence that a new one is in the pipeline. CAR's sources suggest we'll see the new ...

Used cars: how to buy a second-hand Honda Civic Type R (2007-2010)

Rated 3.5 out of 53.5

Ben Barry, 20 March 2012 09:00

If you're looking for an all-round hot hatch, the Civic Type R isn't for you: it's an all-or-nothing hot hatch. The ride is hard and spikey, the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre 16-valver is low on torque and, really, it doesn't do the daily drive stuff anywhere near as completely as a Golf GTI or Focus ST. But work the Type R ...

Why an old Honda Civic beats the new 2012 one

Rated 4 out of 54

Ben Barry, 02 February 2012 14:11

A few months back, I tested the all-new Civic and wasn’t particularly impressed: I didn’t like the too-high seating position, the oddly weighted steering, the coarse diesel engine, the still-dubious rear visibility and, crucially, the lack of any discernible fun factor. There was no doubt about it in my mind: I’d buy a VW Golf instead. Then, in January, I took ...

Honda Civic 2.2 i-DTEC (2012) CAR Review

Rated 2.5 out of 52.5

Tim Kendall (photography by George F Williams), 23 December 2011 06:00

Swindon’s most famous export (aside from Billie Piper) has had a re-boot. The all-new, ninth-generation Honda Civic will go on sale in January 2012, and gently evolves the space-age Civic of 2006 – itself a radical departure from the safe, blue-rinse optimised Civics of old. First impressions count, and oddly some of the most memorable design flourishes which gave the ...

Honda Civic 1.8 iVTEC EX-GT (2011) CAR review

Rated 3.5 out of 53.5

Anthony ffrench-Constant, 02 November 2011 10:00

Honda is nothing if not attentive to its customers. This, allied to bullet-proof build quality, metronomic reliability and ironclad residuals, explains why so many of them keep coming back for more. So it’s hardly surprising that it was to its customers that Honda turned first when hatching this new, ninth generation Civic. Five areas were identified for attention: the ‘polarising’ ...

Honda Civic (2011) at Frankfurt motor show

Rated 3 out of 53

Gavin Green, 12 September 2011 20:00

This is the ninth generation of Honda’s small car star, which has gestated from trend setting (Civic Mk1 of 1972) to stylistically dull if technically advanced (most) to sci-fi-style wacko but technically mainstream (Civic Mk8). New Civics, over the years, have been about as easy to forecast as David Beckham’s next hairstyle as Honda engineers – never the most predictable ...
