Honda dealership goes green

Honda has cast its environmental eye on to its dealerships. Its latest showroom – Inchcape Honda in Romford, Essex – uses recycled rainwater, ground source heating pumps and solar power to slash its energy bill by 30 percent compared to standard showrooms.

Why is this Honda dealership so green?

Instead of traditional air-conditioning, the 12-car site uses fully automated low-level ventilation louvres around the edge of the showroom and high level, chimney-style ventilation terminals mounted on the roof of the building. Wind pressure then draws air through the showroom.

Heating is provided from energy in the ground using nine, 75-metre-deep bore holes located beneath the car park. Solar power is used to heat water on site and a UV filtration treatment cleans collected rainwater for car washes.

The shiny showroom also displays Honda’s new corporate identity for its European dealer network, and according to Honda, features ‘a new approach to interior design, improved signage and a distinctive exterior appearance’.
