And I agree with everyone who thinks the P1's design is a bit too gloopy -- in yellow: melted ceese. The F1, when it happened, somehow had a body that was as-one with the technology. McLaren has truly great technology but the body (P1 and MP4-12C) seems from a different place, a slightly different culture. I know that vehicles in this market have to be showy, to look the business, but that can be done a thousand ways. I would say that McLarens should look powerful, clever, light, technical and athletic... and beautiful -- and the P1 just doesn't tick those boxes accurately. It's a shame, but it's not a show-stopper. Next time.

McLaren Automotive is now considered a legitimate and serious peer and rival to Ferrari and Porsche. That is a staggering success. No 'plucky Brit' excuses (remember TVR: "it looks like this because my dog tried to eat the bumper"?), but a fastidious, creative and determined world-class design and manufacturing player, with a unique and original point of view. Dammit the UK needs many more McLarens -- brands that exist by virtue of great design and great technology, applied with wit and brilliance. Yeh, yeh -- like Apple. Oops, sorry, this is a car magazine.

The new generation of Hypercars looks like a large scale model that comes out from Hotwheels or Tamiya large scale model toy car. With the right dual tone of colors, I would say the Huayra is the prettiest by far. In terms of performance the Porsche 918 looks rather promising.

@GranDaddo; you can never judge a car based on a specification sheet. I am a Ferrari owner and fan but I always had respect for McLaren. And I am in no doubt this will be a very close call. A much closer one than spec sheets suggest. Driving is what these cars are all about, which one will win your heart? Which one will make you smile and/or or wet your pants?

No doubt the test in CAR magazine we are looking forward the most is this one. Battle of the titans.

And Porsche... I really hope they can keep up with this cars. Im looking at all available sources to see details on them and they are now somewhere 7:15 at Nurburging if Im not mistaken, and its pretty slower then what we are looking here. Still price might put Porsche in different league.
