Saab 9-X Air concept car (2008): first photos and video

It's time the General allows SAAB to actually just go ahead and build these things, the last few concepts have been very promising (bar the SUV that they actually allowed to go through) but we never see enough of them in the eventual production vehicles SAAB produces, though this doesn't mean to say they are ugly (again, bar the 9-4X and in the latter case the 9-7x aswell, which are complete abominations and should be scrapped immediately) Good going SAAB... keep showing us what real character is all about, and in the process, let's hope some of this actually rubs of on your master

OK, great concept and yes, some way off, but don't be so despondent. the new 9-4x SUV is ready for the showrooms within 12 months as is the replacement for the venerable (but still capable) 9-5. The real problem for SAAB at the moment is the 9-3 which despite its recent aggressive facelift is aging rather rapidly against new entrants like C-class and A4 (both rather dull cars IMHO). With the new niche 9-4x, top end 9-5 and the promise of a 9-3 within 3 years, then something like this Air or the 9x would be possible, but as others have said, only if GM ploughs sufficient resource into Saab to enable it. This does seem to be the case if we believe recent proclamations from Saab and there does seem to be a mood of some optimism, so here's fingers crossed for the future.

Yes this looks great and indeed, so did the coupe. But will they ever build it? The latest I've heard from the States is that GM are dithering over what platform to base it on, owing to the fact that they've decided to downsize the next gen 9-3. This indecision can only add to the gestation period and meanwhile Saab is dying. I would love to see this car and it's coupe sibling in production. It's exactly what the Swedes should be making right now and would do wonders for their image in Europe. However, as Ford did with Jaguar, their GM masters only seem to think in terms of their domestic market and with the amount of merde and red ink floating around in Detroit, the future for this car and for Saab as a viable marque look shaky indeed.
