What might first appear simply to be a Yaris with blacked-out C-pillars is in fact the new Toyota Yaris Trend. It's a supposedly more fashion-savvy version of the supermini, set to go on sale in 2013 after a stint on display at the 2012 Paris motor show.
What's new and cool on the 2013 Toyota Yaris Trend?
Apart from the floating roof effect brought out by those black pillars, we have chrome detailing in the headlights and foglight surrounds, two-tone 16-inch alloys and a rear spoiler. The LED rear light clusters are borrowed from the hybrid Yaris, there's chrome side skirt and mirro trim, and a 'Deco Line' variation on the go-faster stripe that runs rearward from the headlamps.
Inside, the two-tone theme continues, with a light-coloured splash to the dash not unlike the Fiat 500. Soft-touch panesl on both the fascia and doorcards are white, - naturally with more Deco Line splashed around - plus there are black and white seats, and a black and white scheme for the (larger) stumpy gearknob.
Any other Toyota Yaris Trend details?
Well, if you want the 'Deco Line' you'll have to choose either silver or white for your Yaris. Otherwise, you can specify any colour from the Yaris palette. Toyota claims the Yaris is the most compact car in the supermini class, while also one of the roomiest, and says it has the tightest turning circle at 4.7m.
If that's enough to seduce the youth vote into falling for the Trend, the 2012 Paris motor show is the first place to see it, later this month. Pricing will be revealed closer to the car's launch date early next year.
