Ford Focus RS has 1000 UK orders

Ford UK has confirmed its dealers have received more than 1000 orders for the new Focus RS, despite the rampant hot hatch having only been unveiled at the British motor show two months ago. By way of comparison, Ford UK only sold 2200 previous-generation Focus RS models in two whole years.

Is that new green hue popular on the Ford Focus RS?

According to Ford, 40 percent of customers have requested the Electric Green paint (pictured in CAR's exclusive photoshoot above), while Frozen White and Electric Blue have also been popular choices. There’s been no word on ASBO Orange just yet…

As well as the choice of colour, punters can spec a Lux pack, a premium sat-nav system and leather, though we’d recommend sticking with the standard trim on the excellent Recaros.

If Ford can make the numbers work the Focus RS should start at sub-£25k, while customers are due to get the first cars in summer 2009.

Personally speaking it's a ST, and not a RS. If it had a 2L Turbo & 4WD then it would be a RS - as then it would be like the Focus WRCars. A bit silly giving it the RS moniker when apart from the bodyshape it shares very little with the WRCar.

It definitely looks the part. I still can't get around the focus looks though. It still reminds me of rental cars.

First cars in summer 2009! I thought this car was supposed to be fast! But seriously, I will be very excited to hear how this one goes and steers. Nurburgring time of 8:17 (did I get that right?) sounds sensational - and strangely matches that hot stripped Megane model (that I can't remember the name of - oh dear). In the US, the Mazdaspeed3 (3 MPS to you) get's great reviews. I drove one and much preferred it to the new Impreza WRX - disappointingly not very impreziv. The hot Maza felt as fast as a Maser, so the Focus RS with 30 or 40 more hp should be hot. CAR, when's the first drive?
