What car should William and Kate drive to the wedding?
16 November 2010 14:22
In case you live on a desert island and have managed to miss today’s Royal engagement news (yet can still mysteriously log on to CAR Online), Prince William and Kate Middleton have this morning announced their engagement.
This got us thinking. The happy couple need a suitable set of wheels for the big day in spring or summer 2011, so who better to assist than CAR!
Here's the quandary. The royal family has been modernising in recent times, so a horse-drawn carriage is soooo Queen Victoria, and the fuel bill for Grandma’s Rolls will surely result in mass hysteria if the tabloids become privy to it.
So we need something modern. Ideally with ecological credentials. Something suitable for the wedding of the decade. We've thought long and hard and come up with a handy shortlist. Will and Kate – if you’re reading this, let us know. You have our number still, yeah?
Aston Martin Cygnet
A thoroughly modern slant on a favoured marque of the Royals
It kind of looks like daddy’s DB6 if you squint really hard
No room for Kate’s tiara. Plus they'll look stupid
A British icon reinvented for the 21st century
Pros Like a Mini in waders. The perfect British country sport!
Cons Woops. Now owned by those blasted Germans...
So, if a British owned marque is an issue we have a further problem. Rolls? Nope, Bentley? Nope. How about an Ariel then?
Pros A genuine British contender. No excuse for being late to the church.
Cons Kate will be walking down the aisle with hair like Scary Spice’s after a blast in an Atom!
VW Polo Match
Now, what about this one! One’s favourite sport!
Pros They don’t make the Polo Match edition any more, so, maybe the ‘something old’ part of your wedding?
Cons What do you mean it’s not actually your favourite sport?
Which leads us neatly on to...
Daihatsu Terios ‘Top Gear fox hunt’ one-off
Remember that Top Gear episode when they dressed up a Daihatsu as a fox?
Pros The ultimate customised car for a royal?
Cons Mummy might unwittingly chase us and start shooting it!
