Audi A8 | spy photos | A8 scoop

This is the new 2010 Audi A8, scooped on test in Europe sporting a very BMW-style swirly whirly disguise. The A8 won’t be at next week’s 2009 Frankfurt motor show, and we’re expecting to see it at a later date in 2009 around November time.

Audi has already issued a teaser sketch of the new A8’s headlamp, but now we can see the full dimensions and shape for the first time.

So what’s new on the 2010 Audi A8?

More of the same, really. Audi is sticking with its aluminium architecture, with drive sent to all four wheels on most models through the Quattro drivetrain. Expect a new eight-speed automatic gearbox too.

Air suspension and an electronic rear diff will be offered, while engines are tipped to include:

• 3.0-litre V6 supercharged, 290bhp
• 4.2-litre V8 FSI, 372bhp
• 4.0-litre V8 TFSI, 420bhp
• 5.0-litre V10 FSI, 620bhp
• 3.0-litre V6 TDI, 250bhp
• 4.2-litre V8 TDI, 340bhp

Only a brace of 4.2s will be offered at launch, followed by the smaller V6 petrol and diesel. Expect the big-hitters – including the V10-powered S8 – some time after that.
