McLaren MP4-12C, né P11, (2010) latest spyshots
12 August 2009 13:48
These are the latest (and best) spyshots of McLaren's new P11 supercar, taken as the nominal succesor to the F1 undergoes the final stages of hot-weather testing in Bahrain.
It's probably the last time we'll see the car ahead of its official debut this autumn.
McLaren P11: a quick overview
CAR first revealed that McLaren was planning a new supercar back in summer 2007, and although the addition of ex-Ferrari designer Frank Stephenson to the Woking team led to a few tweaks to the front and rear bumpers, the P11 is essentially unchanged from the car we scooped two years ago.
Our new spyshots today reveal the louvred front intakes and vented bonnet, while at the back the rear spoiler is also visible. Look closely and you can also see the four high-mounted quad exhausts, making for a clean and uncluttered rear diffuser. The lights on this prototype are fake.
So what'll the new McLaren supercar really be called?
The P11 designation is actually an internal codename, and details of the real badge and V8 engine itself are still under wraps.
When the P11 goes into production in 2010, McLaren will initially produce 1000 cars a year, before ramping up to 4000 units as Woking introduces a three-strong sports car line-up.
