Mercedes Gullwing/SLC (2011) new CAR spy video

If you’re excited about the £250k, 670bhp Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, then prepared to be stunned by Stuttgart’s next supercar. Currently dubbed the Gullwing, it will be AMG’s first production car so we’re expecting great things. You might not be too impressed by 550bhp, but at an expected weight of 1650kg the new car weighs a chunky 220kg less than the SL Black. And that 550bhp output is a conservative estimate, too.

Yawn........................unimpressed. Who does the benchmarking at Mercedes? I mean, they are not even cognizant of how quickly the goal posts are being moved. First, it was the Nissan GT-R with its 7:29 'Ring time, then came the Corvette, next we'll have the GT-R V Spec, the Honda NSX..........the list just goes on and on. I think Mercedes and AMG needs to have a good look at themselves. Why are Mercedes and AMG still targetting the current Porsche 911 Turbo when it is no longer "owns" the Nurburgring? Sure the 911 Turbo is still the most accomplished all-rounder out there. But shouldn't Mercedes and AMG be targetting the NEXT 911 Turbo S. Not the current 997 Turbo. The game has moved on. Mercedes and AMG are in real danger of fluffing this one up and this new SLC is looking more and more like it will suffer the same fate as the McLaren Mercedes. That is a BIG disappointment. Wake up Herr Aufreucht & Ungar!!!!!!!!! Put a real doppel-kupplung gearbox into it too.

Looks like 2010-2011 will be a bumper years for performance cars. Guess it must be the last hurrah before we will be forced to get more fuel efficient cars.
