Vauxhall/Opel Allegra/Junior (2012) scooped on video
08 February 2012 10:48
Here's some spy video footage of the new 2013 Vauxhall and Opel city car. We hesitate to name it - but let's stick with the Junior or Allegra tags that have been used internally in its development.
This city car will slot beneath the Corsa when we see it at the 2012 Paris motor show. It's essentially a replacement for the Agila and goes on sale in 2013, tipped to cost close to the Fiat 500.
That cinquecento is significant; GM Europe is targeting the sassy fashion of the 500 and Mini and will offer a large peronalisation programme.
Vauxhall design chief on the new Junior
European design chief Mark Adams has previously told CAR: 'We have a heritage in small cars, but we wanted to do this in a contemporary way.
'It’s modern but with real personality. We want to show we are not in a straightjacket.
'Cars like the Junior will make people realise we are really pushing the Opel-Vauxhall brand. If we’d have tried to introduce it before Insignia, it probably wouldn’t have worked. Now we have the quality, and we’re flirting with more character and personality.’
What can we see in the spy video of the new Vauxhall Junior?
Our new spy video of the Junior reveals a compact hatch on test manoeuvres. It's still disguised, so we can't make out the cool detail promised by Adams, but it gives us an idea of the silhouette and stance of this new wannabe premium hatchback.
