Watch the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS in our new CAR spy video as it tests in Germany. Actually, come to think of it – don’t just watch, make sure you listen to the new second-gen 997 GT3 RS. And turn up the volume. Loud.
Yes, the new GT3 RS makes some pretty epic noises as it tests at the Nurburgring ahead of its planned debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2009.
The RS is based on the 2009 GT3 (read our review here) and adds the mother of all spoilers, which appears to be made from carbonfibre. Wider rear bodywork and deeper side skirts complete the picture – and it’s not all for show. The RS’s role is to homologate the RSR racer, as well as line Wendelin Wiedeking’s balance sheet.
The full technical spec of the second-gen 997 GT3 RS will become clearer in the next few months, but we expect it to stick with the regular GT3’s 3.8 flat six producing 429bhp, add an optional rollcage and offer ceramic brakes, switchable dampers and numerous weight saving measures to trim the pounds (but not the £s).
