Struggling to understand how big the new ‘baby’ Rolls is? Then watch our new spy video of the Rolls-Royce RR4 on test on the road in Germany. You can clearly see this saloon is a full-sized limo, with the suicide – sorry, coach – doors from the Phantom and an upright stance to accommodate plutocrats and aristocrats who are choosing to be more discrete in the current economic climate. Who’d have thought Rolls-Royce owners would downsize? Soon, they’ll be able to.

Codenamed RR4, the new limo will cost around £160,000 and we’ll see it first at the 2009 Geneva motor show. It’s based on the engineering package of the new BMW 7-series, but will be sufficiently tweaked to qualify as a new platform, according to Rolls sources.

Strip away that disguise, and you’ll find that Greek temple grille, a short overhang and Rolls’ trademark thick C-pillar to avoid onlookers’ stares. It’s clearly longer than the 7-series, and will stretch to 5500mm long. All this bulk will be propelled by a silken V12, discernible in our new spy video below.
