New car debrief: Jaguar XE AWD, CAR+ January 2016

Published: 10 December 2015 Updated: 15 December 2015

► AWD system now available for XE
► Exclusively available for 178bhp diesel
► InControl Touch Pro joins options list

1) Traction engine – the Jaguar XE is now available with the latest must-have accessory for junior exec saloons: all-wheel drive. Based on the swift-acting system developed for the F-type, it’s exclusively available with the 178bhp diesel auto from £33,825.

2) Faster, pussycat? – awd XE is rwd until the electronic brains (there are several networked components involved) conclude more assistance is required. Activating the front axle takes just 165 milliseconds, but an extra 95kg slows 0-62mph time by 0.1sec to 7.9.

3) Technological advance – in other XE news, InControl Touch Pro joins the options list. Built around a 10.2in touchscreen, this infotainment upgrade promises sharper graphics, multi-touch control, and greater speed.

4) Group text – the nav can dead reckon if the GPS signal drops, learn your route to work to avoid congestion, and send messages if you’re running late. What’s more, new XE can handle up to eight wi-fi devices at once, including the Apple Watch, which you can now use to start the car.
