Mercedes SL gets a new face for 2016: first look

► Facelift time for Mercedes SL
► New grille and headlights
► To be revealed in full at LA show

This is our first look at the facelifted-for-2016 Mercedes SL, ahead of its full unveil at the LA motor show next week.

Merc’s cruiser gets a new, more rounded grille with a glitzy ‘diamond’ pattern, a little like the 3D-effect design available on certain A-class models, and smoother, more modern-looking headlights like those of the AMG GT sports car.

Earlier spyshots

Spyshots of the facelifted SL testing earlier in 2015 suggest more minor changes at the rear, with subtly altered rear bumpers.

Full technical details will be announced at the LA show. Currently the Mercedes-Benz SL is available in six-cylinder SL400 and eight-cylinder SL500 form, as well as two AMG variants, the 577bhp SL63 AMG and the 621bhp SL65 AMG.
