Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo (2014): a future GT-R?

Published: 17 June 2014 Updated: 26 January 2015

Nissan and the makers of the Gran Turismo game have unveiled the new Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo virtual supercar.

It’s a 2+2 sports car to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo driving franchise and is said to explore radical new aerodynamics which could shape future Nissan sports cars.

Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo: the next GT-R?

A host of manufacturers are designing futuristic sports cars for the driving game and the new Nissan is suitably advanced. It’s like today’s GT-R turned up to 11 or 12.

The headlamps are strongly reminiscent of the GT-R’s ‘wrapover’ lights and the squat cabin silhouette shows how the Skyline outline could be further exaggerated in future.

As the name suggests, the Concept 2020 is designed to offer a glimpse of a Nissan sports car six years hence.

‘The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo is a vision of what a high-performance Nissan could look like in the future,’ claims Nissan. ‘It was created through close collaboration with the creators of Gran Turismo, Polyphony Digital Inc, the legendary PlayStation driving franchise.’

Nissan’s London design studio in Paddington was responsible for the GT car, with input from Japan HQ.

When can I download the Nissan Concept 2020 GT?

It will become available to download in Gran Turismo 6 in July 2014. Nissan is proud that it has more vehicles in GT6 than any other manufacturer – check out the handy wallchart guide to some of the Nissans featured in the gallery above.

Will it actually launch something looking like this, though? In the real world, we have plenty of doubts.

But the blurb says: ‘As a specialist in automotive design in three-dimensions, Nissan believes that the real-world is ready for the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo. Watch this space…’
