Maserati is shadow-boxing with the Porsche Cayenne, as it prices the new Levante SUV to mirror its rival from Stuttgart.
The cheapest Levante will cost £54,335. That’ll bag you the entry-level Diesel model – the only powertrain being brought to the UK. The slightly less powerful 261bhp Cayenne Diesel starts at £52,689.

Sadly Brits are being denied the rorty V6 petrol-powered crossover tested recently by our European correspondent Georg Kacher. Instead, just take your pick of derv crossovers in different equipment specs:

The sole engine choice in the UK is the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel, developing 271bhp. Key stats are 6.9sec for the 0-62mph sprint, a top whack of 143mph and 189g/km of CO2 emissions.
Order books open in June 2016, with the first deliveries expected in the autumn.
