BTCC stars set for 2014 Goodwood Revival action

Goodwood today confirmed the race line-up for the 2014 Revival’s St Mary’s Trophy, the popular touring car event on the historic Sussex race track.

It’s always interesting to see modern drivers make the switch into more antique machinery, but that is exactly what happens every year at the popular Goodwood Revival historic meeting – and in 2014 we’ll see a raft of BTCC stars past and present.

BTCC champs step back in time

As usual Goodwood has drawn in some of the biggest names in touring car racing, with no fewer than eight title-winning drivers taking part in the 30-car St Mary’s Trophy for ‘50s production saloons.

Yuasa Honda teammates Gordon Shedden – who won the 2012 title – and Matt Neal – winner in ’05, ’06 and ‘11 – will both be behind the wheel of Austin A35s. Reigning BTCC champion Andrew Jordan is set to share another Austin, a 1958 A40 prepared by family-owned Eurotech Racing, with his very quick father Mike, himself a BTCC race winner.

The line-up for the 2014 St Mary’s Trophy

Race win record holder Jason Plato will partner TV chef and racing enthusiast James Martin in a 1959 Alan Mann Racing Ford Prefect 107E, which is set to wear the iconic red and gold livery that made Alan Mann’s cars so recognisable.

Recent returnee to the BTCC and double title winner, Fabrizio Giovanardi is set to make his Revival debut in an Alfa Romeo.

John ‘the man’s an animal!’ Cleland, who won the title in ’89 and ‘95, will also be competing in the St Mary’s Trophy, along with current Ebay BMW driver Colin Turkington.

The St Mary’s Trophy is, without fail, one of the most exciting and hotly contested races at the Revival, so prepare for more of the same this year.

And don’t expect the touring car drivers to hold anything back in an attempt to claim overall victory in the two-part race…
