Renault Megane Sport Tourer (2009): the spy photos

Renault is – again – planning to offer its new Megane  range in a wide array of bodystyles. We’ve just caught the new Sport Tourer estate undergoing cold-weather testing ahead of its UK launch in September 2009.

Renault Megane Sport Tourer: another rear of the year?

That famously bulging rear end from the previous Megane has been slimmed down considerably on the hatchback range. The Sport Tourer shares the front-end styling with the hatchback and it’s hard to call the unique styling of the new estate under this bin-bag disguise. We can, however, make out split rear lights on the tailgate.

The new 2009 Megane estate: longer and lower

There’s a low roofline that creates a sportier appearance, but that swooping roofline looks as if it’ll trade practicality for aesthetics.

The wheelbase of the Sport Tourer is expected to be longer than the hatchback’s; expect it to share the stretched architecture of the Scenic MPV version of the Megane, also due later in 2009.

The engines

Expect engine variations on a par with the hatchback, ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 litres in petrol capacity and both 1.5-litre and 1.9-litre dCi diesel units.

The Megane estate is due to be officially unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March 2009 – alongside a hot new Renaultsport Megane, Megane Scenic and Grand Scenic.
