Mini – Bourne Identity

Published: 20 October 2008 Updated: 26 January 2015

Ranking: 23

Year of release: 2002.

The car: Mini Cooper.

Why it’s special: Cue the British national anthem – Bourne uses an original British Mini to escape the French police. We couldn’t be more proud of our home-grown hero.

Best bit: Bourne’s showdown with The Professor, a fellow assassin played by Clive Owen.

Pub fact: During the car chase, the badge in one the centre of the steering wheel changes from Cooper, to Mini, then back again.

Plot overview: A bullet-ridden amnesiac is rescued from drowning by a fishing trawler, only to find himself the unwitting target of enemies. Is he really the ruthless assassin they think he is? And will he even live long enough to figure it out?

For: Over 30 years after The Italian Job, the Mini is back in another great car chase.

Against: No Michael Caine, no theme tune to whistle…

CAR verdict: The Italian Job’s trio of Minis was always going to top this solitary Cooper.
