BMW launches new 5-series teaser

Published: 10 November 2009 Updated: 26 January 2015

It’s begun – BMW has started the PR roll-out for the new 5-series. First up there’s both a teaser video and a single image of the Five, before the new car is unveiled on 23 November 2009.

There’s one solitary image, and the video is typically brief, but BMW claims it’s enough to give us a glimpse of ‘the sporting and elegant design of the new BMW 5-series, using the kinetic sculpture from the BMW Museum to create the silhouette’. Looks like lots of suspended silver balls to us…

The new Five will be the sixth generation of BMW’s executive saloon, and according to the company the latest car remains ‘the synonym for aesthetics and driving pleasure’. The chassis is made up of components from the 7-series and 5 GT, but it will abandon the current car’s hybrid steel and aluminium construction, in favour of an all-steel platform.

UK sales of the saloon start in March 2010 with a 530d, 523i and 535i leading the charge. More engine variants, and a Touring bodystyle, will be revealed next summer.

Come back to CAR Online at 7pm (UK time) on 23 November 2009 when we’ll have the first pictures of the new BMW 5-series.
