Ferrari World’s F430 Spider-inspired rollercoaster

Published: 17 March 2010 Updated: 26 January 2015

This is the latest Ferrari. It’s not an MR2-based rip off, or a one-off four-seat F430 Spider, but the new rollercoaster at Ferrari World.

Ferrari World? Is that the new theme park being built in Abu Dhabi?

Yes, and according to the people at the Prancing Horse it will be the world’s biggest indoor theme park; it’s being built alongside the F1 circuit on Yas Island and is set to open in the second half of 2010.

There will be a total of 20 rides and attractions at Ferrari World, including two rollercoasters. The F430 Spider (pictured) is from the GT rollercoaster, and so befits Ferrari it’s a ‘racing coaster’ meaning two competing carriages are sent ‘sprinting along twisting parallel tracks on a race to the finish line’. Sounds like a pre-planned 1-2 photo finish to us…

The Abu Dhabi GP in November is the last race of this year’s 19-round F1 championship, and Ferrari World should be open by then. The teams won’t miss it either – the huge building, with three ‘tri-form’ arms and a 65m-long Prancing Horse, spreads out from behind the Yas Marina Circuit.
