German brand Borgward back from the dead at Geneva 2015

► Borgward brand revived
► Returns to 2015 Geneva motor show
► Can it survive after 54-year absence?

Mothballed German premium brand Borgward has confirmed it will reappear at the 2015 Geneva motor show – half a century after it last displayed at the Swiss expo.

Grandson of the company’s founder, Christian Borgward is behind the renaissance but little is know yet of the company’s plans.

It has issued the video below and says more will be announced in Geneva on 3 March 2015. But is that a large coupe-like shape under the dust sheet at the end of the video?

Borgward: a potted history

The car maker was founded in 1919, but squeezed out of business in 1961. It simply could not compete with the rising power of its German rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Borgward always purported to be an innovative brand and had a sporting bent, too; it competed at the Le Mans 24hr as well as the Nurburgring 1000km.

Sounds like an interesting one to watch out for in the coming weeks as the Swiss show approaches…
