► In showrooms around September

Jeep has just revealed the Renegade 4xe, a new, electrified version of the Renegade 4×4. The plug-in hybrid will be the most fuel-efficient Jeep SUV ever and will also feature a zero-emission full electric mode. Jeep believes the seemingly limitless and precise torque of electric power is a great fit for the brand – so this is the first of many.

There aren’t too many figures to go on, but Jeep says the 4xe will have a top speed of 124mph and achieve up to 120-130mpg. There’ll be two as yet unknown power outputs and three trim levels, but we do know the 4xe is coming to the UK in September and will start at £32,600.

It’ll be built at FCA’s Melfi plant in Italy, where the ICE-only Renegade has been produced for the last eight years.

We’ll update this article when we know more.
