Hot Evoque anyone? Land Rover introduces performance petrol to baby RR and Disco Sport

Published: 15 June 2017

► Hot Land Rover petrol
► 286bhp for Evoque and Disco Sport
► Plus new 237bhp petrol and diesel

Has your small JLR SUV not got enough go? Land Rover has announced some new engines for its Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque for the 2018 model year.

Two new petrol engines have joined the range of both cars: a 237bhp and a 286bhp version. Both Ingenium engines are available now, along with the sD4 diesel also seen in the new Land Rover Discovery.

The headline is that the 286bhp petrol is now the most powerful engine in both the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque’s line-up. If equipped with that engine, the Disco Sport can launch to 60mph in 6.5 seconds while the Evoque is even sprightlier, achieving a 6.0 second sprint time.

If you want this engine, you’ll have to fork out £49,395 for a HSE Dynamic Luxury Discovery Sport, or from £48,200 for a five-door Evoque in HSE Dynamic trim.

Along with the new range-topper, the old 237bhp petrol has been replaced with an Ingenium unit that Land Rover claims is 15% more efficient. The 237bhp sD4 diesel is also the most powerful diesel in both of the SUV’s ranges, too, offering 369lb ft of torque.
