Published: 28 March 2012

Skoda is launching a special Urban edition of the Yeti baby crossover packing £2450 of extra equipment at no cost over the equivalent SE spec.

The new Yeti Urban is based on the two-wheel drive model with a choice of the 104bhp 1.2 TSI or the 2.0-litre TDI diesel with 109bhp.

Skoda Yeti Urban Edition: the lowdown

This UK special edition is limited to 750 models and hits UK showrooms in April 2012. The Yeti has proven a success in the UK, Skoda claiming more than 8800 sales since launch in 2009.

Extra equipment thrown in to the Urban spec includes:

• Satellite navigation
• Bluetooth connectivity
• Multi-function steering wheel
• DAB digital radio
• Rear parking sensors
• Dual-zone air-conditioning

Oh the irony of adding sporting gear to a car designed to ape an off-roader!

Yes, especially when you consider the cosmetic flourishes, including 17in black and chrome alloys, wheelarch extensions, silver door mirror caps, roof stripes and roof rails. Metallic paint is included.

Inside the Skoda Yeti Urban has red or black sports seats and smoked glass in the rear.

So they're throwing lots of kit at it to pep up sales?

That's the traditional use of a special edition, so yes. It's all part of Skoda's expansion plan, as it seeks to ramp up sales in line with the brand's plan to double sales by 2018.

Price for the Skoda Yeti Urban edition? That'll be £16,900 for the petrol 1.2 and £18,330 for the diesel 2.0.
