Techart Powerkit pushes the new 911 Carrera over 500bhp

► A solid 60bhp to 80bhp increase

The new 911 Turbo S represents the pinnacle of the new 992, but at over £150,000 it’s a fair trek in price from the entry-level sportscar. Enter German tuning firm Techart, with its all-new Powerkit. Probably more popular for its carbonfibre trinkets and aero furniture, Techart’s latest product is an ECU boost worth a solid 79bhp and 74lb ft – or 59bhp and 59lb ft if you’re stuck with a particulate filter. That brings a Carrera S or 4S up to 510bhp with a filter and 523bhp without. It’s suitable for both the Coupe and Cabriolet.

Interestingly, the upgrade only rears its head in Sport and Sport+ modes. Techart don’t want you unleashing that extra power in the wet, and it also means in Normal mode the car will have the same fuel consumption as stock.

What will it do?

A standard Carrera 4 can hit 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, so add a generous dose of power to its 444bhp and a sub-3.0 second time should be possible.

Will it sound any better?

The Powerkit also includes a new titanium exhaust which should give the stock Carrera some more growl – though with a turbo of some sort fitted to all 992s currently on sale, don’t expect miracles. Get used GT3 or wait for the 992 version if you want a high-revving, flat-six soundtrack – or just get a Cayman GT4 or GT4 RS.

Anyway, back to the exhaust. Available with carbonfibre, high gloss or a matte finish tips – this is Techart, after all  – the system is also sold separately.

We’ll update this article when we have prices and performance figures.
