Vauxhall Maloo pick-up throws another 100 ponies on the barbie for 2016

► New 2016 Maloo ute gets 529bhp
► Supercharged V8 from VXR8 GTS
► Now does 0-62mph in 4.6!

What did the outrageous Vauxhall Maloo not need more of? Power. But that’s not stopped the madcap antics over at GM’s Australian outpost Holden, who’ve upgraded the Maloo ute for 2016 with an extra 100 horsepower.

The new Maloo LSA – identified by its new front splitter, 20in five-spoke alloys and black bonnet air vents – nabs the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 from the VXR8 GTS with a blistering 529bhp. That’s enough for a rather crazed 0-62mph time of 4.6sec.

The world’s fastest pick-up truck?

Pretty much yes. We certainly can’t think of any other vehicle that can haul half a tonne and out-drag most Porsches at the traffic lights thanks to a launch control system. Yes, really.

The engine is essentially the same as the lump in the Camaro ZL1 and VXR8 GTS, bringing a boost from the previous Maloo’s 425bhp. Keeping all that power in check is an LSD diff and tuned chassis featuring stiffer spring and recalibrated dampers.

Cost of all this madness? £54,500. You can even claim the VAT back if you’re a builder in a rush…
