► UK prices confirmed for new Fiat Tipo

Full UK prices have been announced for the new Fiat Tipo, the Turinese giant’s return to the mid-sized family hatchback market. The 2016 Tipo starts from £12,995, pricing the entry-level boggo version below many of its rivals.

Where does the new Fiat Tipo fit in the market price-wise?
Comfortably below many of the most popular family hatchbacks, such as the models below, although the vagaries of trim and engine options of course complicate the picture a little.
- Skoda Rapid: from £14,580
- Vauxhall Astra: from £15,295
- Hyundai i30: from £15,295
- Peugeot 308: from £15,495
- Ford Focus: from £16,245
- VW Golf: from £17,595

The Tipo’s available as either a five-door hatchback or as a Station Wagon estate. The latter costs a neat, round £1000 more than the hatch, trim for trim.
Does the pricing strategy mean you get next to no kit on the boggo model, though?
All Tipo models get air conditioning, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth and USB connectivity, along with electric mirrors, a centre arm rest and steering wheel-mounted controls.
You’ll need to pay extra for front fog lights, rear electric windows, alloy wheels and a touchscreen system on the base version, though.
Three trim levels will be offered in the UK initially. Exactly what they’ll be called is still to be confirmed. Middle trims get all of the above kit as standard, and cost £1000 more than the base model.
Top trim variants will cost a further £1000 and add sat-nav, 17in alloys, a rear view camera and additional bits of chrome, among a few other extras.
Engines?
Five of ’em: two diesel and three petrol.
Diesels: a 1.3-litre with 93bhp and a 1.6-litre with 118bhp.
Petrols: a 1.4-litre with 93bhp, a 1.4-litre turbo with 118bhp and a 1.6-litre with 108bhp (only available coupled to a torque converter automatic gearbox).
