With all the inevitability of a weapons race, car manufacturers love nothing more than ramping up their power outputs on hot hatches.
It's increasingly easy, now that most performance - and cooking - cars are turbocharged. A little more boost here, a dab more bragging rights there.
And so Skoda has increased peak power and torque on its flagship Octavia, now rebadged vRS 245. That's replacing the 230. Which replaced the 220. Which...
We get the idea! So the Skoda Octavia vRS 245 has two-hundred-and-forty-five horsepower?
Exactly, of the metric kind. We guess vRS 242 sounds a bit less impressive in imperial ponies - more like a pathetic special offer at a supermarket.

Both hatchback and estate bodystyles will be offered on the newly facelifted Octavia range, the extra power cutting the benchmark 0-62mph times to 6.6 seconds on the five-door (6.7sec on the wagon).
