This is the new Lexus RX-L – a new seven-seat version of the perennial luxury soft-roader first revealed at the 2017 LA motor show.

It’s quite a simple recipe here: the RX-L has a 110mm longer wheelbase to incorporate two extra seats in a third row. The coupe-like rear end has been made, er… less coupe-like to ensure those at the back have a decent amount of headroom and the middle row has been raised for maximum available legroom.

Lexus says that the US version has some extra kit to offset the sting of sitting in the rearmost pew. A tri-zone climate control system allows for separate settings and vents for each row, plus those in the back get cupholders and full-length curtain airbags.

When you’re not making use of all seven seats, you can fold them down electrically and access the massive boot space via the powered tailgate.

It’s not just a US-specific model, though; the RX-L will make its way to Europe and the UK in spring 2018. Prices and UK specs are to be confirmed, so stay tuned.
